Cassis 11-storey tower slated for Broadway and Arbutus

Bastion Development is proposing an 11-storey tower called Cassis at West Broadway and Arbutus, across from a future SkyTrain station.

The tower, designed by Francl Architecture, will include:

  • 79 units, including five, two-storey townhouses
  • retail space on the ground floor
  • two levels of underground parking with 120 stalls, and EV charging stations

The project site is currently occupied by a Shell gas station and is across the street from the future transit exchange where SkyTrain riders will board buses to continue west towards UBC as part of the Broadway/Millennium Line extension.

Francl Architecture describes the design rationale as follows:

The architectural character of the proposed building reflects a clean, contemporary design vocabulary utilizing a combination of light/dark cut stone cladding and complementary glass panel spandrel window walls.

Residents will have access to a two-storey indoor amenity and over 6,600 square feet of exterior amenity space on the second floor. A workshop room will also be provided.

The development application for Cassis is being made in conjunction with a smaller project, also by Bastion Development, at 2106 West 8th Avenue. That building will be a small, three-storey townhouse development with five units, with parking located under the main tower.

The Cassis tower is likely the first of a wave of new residential towers proposed along the SkyTrain extension west to Arbutus. The project includes six new underground stations, including an interim terminus station at Arbutus Street.
