Whistler chateau fails to sell in online auction targeting Chinese buyers

A spectacular chateau overlooking Nita Lake in Whistler has failed to sell in a highly publicized auction targeting Chinese buyers.

Concierge Auctions listed Chateau du Lac on its online auction platform in November 2018, and also held a live auction in Hong Kong in hopes of finding a buyer.

The auction appears to have attracted significant interest, however the reserve price of $10.9 million CAD was not met. The home was previously listed at nearly double the reserve price — $19.88 million CAD.

“Despite the significant interest, the reserve was not met. The sellers elected to keep the property and not entertain offers below the reserve price. The property remains available for offers,” reads a statement issued Tuesday from Concierge Auctions.

The auction house says the listing garnered 943 prospects, 13 open house tours, and 20 qualified private showings.
