New hotel slated for West Broadway and Laurel

The pandemic may have put a temporary chill on the hotel business, but there’s little doubt Vancouver’s room shortage will return soon—and with that—demand for new rooms across the city.

Hallmark Hospitality, owners of hotels in Alberta, Ontario and B.C., including the Ramada by Wyndham Vancouver Downtown, is planning a new hotel at West Broadway and Laurel Street, on the site of a former Earls restaurant (now New India Buffet).

The rezoning application details a 12-storey hotel building with 147 rooms and restaurant space at grade, designed by Zeidler Architecture. There will be 62 underground parking stalls.

The façade consists of undulating gold ribbons over a dark colour palette.

The application is being considered under the city’s Metro Core Jobs & Economy Land Use Plan, which is meant to ensure there is sufficient development and transportation capacity to accommodate future job growth and economic activity in the Metro Core, consisting of large areas of downtown Vancouver and the Broadway Corridor.
