50-storey Surrey Central tower proposed by Westland

A 50-storey landmark, mixed-use tower designed by Chris Dikeakos Architects is planned for Surrey City Centre, across from SkyTrain.

Surrey’s tallest building 3 Civic Plaza topped out last week, and local media were invited to the tower’s rooftop to showcase the spectacular views.

The 48-storey tower combines a Marriott Autograph Collection hotel and condominiums, and is scheduled to open this fall.

The building is currently the third tallest tower in British Columbia.

It appears the success of 3 Civic Plaza has inspired a similar project combining a new Hampton by Hilton hotel and condominiums at 98 Ave. and King George Blvd.

The 30-storey tower was designed by Architecture 49 and ACDF* ARCHITECTURE and will include:

  • 181 market condo units
    • 14 studios
    • 93 one-bedrooms
    • 74 two-bedrooms
      • amenities: meeting rooms, kitchen, outdoor fire pit and BBQ, dog play area and lawn
  • 112 hotel rooms
    • fitness centre and pool
    • wine bar located in lobby
    • ground-level retail
  • 8 two-storey townhouses
  • 395 underground parking spaces
Hampton by Hilton Surrey lobby
Rendering showing hotel lobby and retail space. The Hampton by Hilton hotel and residences is proposed to open in summer/fall 2020.

The design of the building will be unique, with the four-storey hotel portion wrapped in a curtain wall on King George Blvd. and a “frosted” curtain wall on 98 Ave. An abstract image of a B.C. landscape scene will be printed on the curtain wall glass.

The residential tower above is divided into slabs, that are rotated slightly to create a unique shape. The slabs will be treated like a gradient, moving from dark to light as the slabs move up the tower, giving the illusion of the tower disappearing into the sky.

Townhouse units will front onto 98 Ave. and will be clad in a combination of granite and limestone. The development is within walking distance to the King George SkyTrain station, which should make the hotel popular with guests.

The building will be designed to a LEED Silver standard and should be complete by the summer or fall of 2020.
