TransLink has taken the wraps off improvements to the Joyce-Collingwood SkyTrain station, including a new Instagram-worthy public art installation.

Improvements to the station include new digital signage with real-time updates, improved lighting and new platform tiling, new HandyDART bus shelter and better integration of pedestrian and cycling routes adjacent to the station.

However, the most striking change to the station is a new, colourful public art installation by Renée Van Half, titled ‘Carpeting.’

Van Half says the artwork is essentially a pixelated version of a colourful carpet, painted onto the existing paving stones in the plaza.

“Transit stations have always been a great place for public art. It gives people a chance in their day-to-day lives to encounter art without going to a museum,” says the artist, in a video posted by TransLink.

Check out the installation on the plaza and around the station house at the Joyce-Collingwood SkyTrain station in East Vancouver.
