Six single-family lots on West 41st to become 88 new homes

The development, known as The Bromley, will consist of two, four-storey wood frame buildings on West 41st Avenue and two townhouse blocks on the laneway, with a landscaped courtyard in between them.

A new London Drugs store is planned for the corner of West 4th Avenue and Macdonald Street in Kitsilano as part of a new, mixed-use development.

Musson Cattell Mackey Partnership has designed a four-storey building with retail on the ground floor and 67 units above.

The rendering on site shows a London Drugs, although this has not yet been confirmed by the retailer.

Another London Drugs store is scheduled to open in the Vancouver House development later this year.

The new building will have 168 parking spaces over three levels. The developer is also requesting a height relaxation of approximately 4 feet, as the new building will be 49 ft. tall — four feet taller than what current zoning allows.

The site is across the street from another vacant lot, owned by Wesgroup. It was formerly a Chevron service station before it was transformed into a community garden.

London Drugs opened a smaller, urban store concept called LDExpress in Calgary in 2017. It’s about 4,000 square feet, with a full-serve pharmacy, cosmetics, housewares, photo kiosk and grab-and-go food.

It’s not known if this new location at West 4th and Macdonald will be an LDExpress store, or a full-line London Drugs store.

The development will see the demolition of three buildings on the west side of the site, home to the discount clothing store “Fun in the Sun,” a three-storey apartment building at 2847 West 4th Avenue, and a former art gallery.

The apartment building at 2847 West 4th Avenue contains 12 suites, and was last sold in 2014 for $4,487,000, according to the Goodman Report.
