New park planned for Yaletown at Smithe and Richards

The City of Vancouver held an open house Wednesday night to unveil their preferred concept for a new park in Yaletown, close to the business district -- the first new park downtown in almost a decade.

The lot is across from the Dolce and Vita developments on the corner of Smithe and Richards, and has been in the works for several years. The site is currently a parking lot, but part of it was previously occupied by the restaurant Lucy Mae Brown, which later became a temporary homeless shelter. 

New Vancouver art gallery plaza design revealed

It's been years in the making, but it looks like the revamping of the plaza outside the Vancouver Art Gallery is going forward.

The plaza has seen better days, currently home to an old fountain with broken tiles and bark mulch spread over the unpaved areas. It isn't exactly the most inviting space, although it will play host to the annual 4/20 celebration in less than two weeks.
