45-storey tower and hotel proposed for downtown New Westminster

Reliance Properties is proposing a 45-storey tower and eight-storey hotel for the corner of 8th and Carnarvon in New Westminster.

The development will include 454 units and a 120-room hotel.

Interestingly, the project proponents are asking for a 50 per cent reduction in the number of required parking spaces due to the development’s location near New Westminster SkyTrain station. 321 underground parking spaces are proposed — normally 642 spaces would be required. Current New Westminster city policy only allows for a five per cent reduction in parking if the project is located close to rapid transit.

The tower will be the third tallest in New Westminster, but because of its location on the slope, it will appear to be the city’s tallest. The two tallest towers are at the Bosa Pier West development, currently in the preconstruction phase.

The building was designed by Yamamoto Architecture.
