50-storey Surrey Central tower proposed by Westland

A 50-storey landmark, mixed-use tower designed by Chris Dikeakos Architects is planned for Surrey City Centre, across from SkyTrain.

Developer Rize Alliance says their fourth project in Surrey has received unanimous approval from the city’s Advisory Design Panel, bringing over 1,100 homes to the corner of Whalley Blvd. and 101 Ave.

Six buildings ranging from six to 37 storeys will be organized around an open city block, with public space surrounding the towers. Commercial retail space will be located on the lower floors of the buildings. A daycare is also proposed.

In total, there will be a total of 1,126 units including 972 market units and 154 rental apartments, to replace 154 existing rental units which will be lost as a result of redevelopment.

The unique design comes from Alison Brooks Architects, based in London, UK. Brooks presented the keynote lecture of last year’s Vancouver Design Week, which may be where the collaboration came about. Landscape architecture will be by PWL Partnership.

Phase one is expected to launch in 2020.

Rize Alliance has two projects completed or under construction in Surrey — Wave and Linea — as well as a third tower proposed on King George Blvd.
