Vancouver retail vacancy rates hit ‘extreme lows’

Despite taking a battering during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Vancouver retail vacancies are at extreme lows according to a new report from Colliers International.

A sprawling penthouse that’s the only residential unit in a new commercial building at Granville Street and West 6th Avenue is for sale for $5.8 million.

The penthouse, at 1510 West 6th Avenue, is atop a new retail store for Vancouver-based fashion designer Zonda Nellis. Nellis has operated her designer clothing shop on the corner for more than 20 years.

The 2,378 sq ft. penthouse will have two bedrooms and three bathrooms, and feature “every construction detail you ever dreamed of,” according to the listing.

A private elevator will take residents to the penthouse, and there will also be a car elevator to the underground parkade. Other than the two lifts, details on features and finishings are scarce.

The listing is described as follows: “Brainchild of former Vancouver publisher, David Robinson and Vancouver-based international fashion designer, Zonda Nellis, and with the expertise of the architectural phenomenon, Hossein Amanat, a curated piece of wonder is almost ready for you.”

I’ve never had the pleasure of living in a curated piece of wonder, but it sounds pretty sweet.

Annual property taxes are estimated at $22,438 and the maintenance fee is $1,702.17.
