New family-oriented housing proposed for Strathcona

A unique, family-oriented development is proposed for Strathcona, across from the historic Admiral Seymour Elementary School.

EKISTICS has applied to City of Vancouver to build a four-storey development at 1134 East Georgia Street between Glen Drive and Vernon Drive, replacing a single-storey industrial building.

The development will have 37 residential units, 20 per cent of which are required to be social housing as part of the Downtown Eastside Local Area Plan. Thirty of the 37 units will be three bedroom units suitable for families — a rarity in new Vancouver developments.

There will be a large, 34 foot wide courtyard amenity area for families, with a playground, swings, basketball court and a play field.

Approximately 11,500 square feet of ground-floor retail and creative space will make up the first floor of the building, including a restaurant.

The material palette of the building is rich in texture with offset brick facades, metal Juliette balcony railings, entry canopies, address plates, lighting fixtures, corten steel guards and planter boxes, surface pavers and a variety of grasses and other plantings.
