Dentist office, apartments to replace Pronto restaurant on Cambie Street

Diners are lamenting the pending loss of the Pronto and Prontino restaurants in the Cambie Village, soon to replaced by a four-storey building containing a dentist office and five residential units.

The small art deco building at 3473 Cambie Street will be demolished, with the popular restaurant planning to close in early March.

The new building, by Matthew Cheng Architect Inc., is simple and unremarkable, with exterior walls clad in a combination of Hardie Panel sidings, and a textured brick façade on the ground floor, which will be home to the dentist office.

There will be one level of underground parking with seven stalls, and eight bicycle parking stalls.

Fans of Pronto aren’t going to be left completely in the lurch, however. The restauranteurs are putting the finishing touches on a new restaurant called Centro, in the former Hub Restaurant space on Denman Street. It should open this Spring.

But for residents of the Cambie Village, the redevelopment means the loss of a popular neighbourhood spot.
