New renderings: Downtown Vancouver heritage corner to see revitalization, addition

Chard Development has applied for a development permit to construct an addition to a heritage building at West Pender Street and Homer Street in downtown Vancouver.

urbanYVR first reported on the development just before the New Year after a development application sign appeared on the property, and there are now official renderings and additional details available.

The development permit outlines a seven-storey, mixed-use building that will replace a smaller, existing building on the Homer Street frontage which formerly housed a gentleman’s club and waxing shop.

Atop the Hartney Chambers building, home to Finch’s Cafe and listed on the Vancouver Heritage Registrar, two new storeys will be added. The Edwardian-style heritage building, constructed in 1909, will be restored as part of the redevelopment.

The ground-floor of the new development will include retail, restaurant and office use, and office use on storeys two through six.

Parking will be minimal, with two accessible stalls accessed from the laneway.
