New plaza planned as part of Burrard SkyTrain station upgrades

TransLink is planning upgrades to the public realm around the Burrard SkyTrain station, including the creation of a new plaza.

VIA Architecture and PWL Partnership are on the project, which is part of larger upgrade to the SkyTrain station which was built in the late 1980s. Specifics on the station upgrade are still being worked out, but TransLink is planning the following upgrades to the public realm:

  • Moving the ground-level stairs and escalators closer to Dunsmuir Street
  • Replacing the grassy area outside the station with a hard surface
  • Creating a more seamless connection between the Burrard sidewalk and plaza including minimizing or eliminating stairs
  • Replacing all escalators and the elevator, and adding new ones to increase capacity
