Salvation Army Homestead in Vancouver to be redeveloped

The redevelopment of the former Salvation Army Homestead at West 57th and Oak Street is proceeding, with a pre-application open house.

Plans call for a 20-storey strata condominium tower with 163 units, and a six-storey secured market rental building with 52 units, both designed by GBL Architects.

In addition, there will be a city-owned, 37 space childcare facility on the ground floor of the rental building, and indoor-outdoor amenity spaces for both buildings. A new east-west road will also be added on the property.

The homestead closed in 2015, and the buildings have been vacant since.

The proposed development is being considered under the Cambie Corridor Plan, and is one of several “unique sites” identified by the city under the plan. Modest increases in height and density may be granted for rental housing components.
